The St. Finnian Institute is devoted to forming our members, and outside clergy, in the Catholic faith through the development of continuing education programs. These programs are meant to enhance clergy seminarian experience, specifically in the Celtic rites.
St. Finnian of Clonard (470–549) was an Irish monk, teacher, and founder of the famous monastic school at Clonard in County Meath. Known as the "Teacher of the Saints of Ireland," he taught many prominent Irish saints, including the Twelve Apostles of Ireland. Renowned for his holiness and scholarship, he played a key role in the spread of Christianity in Ireland.
The Institute grants non-degree certifications for clergy following ordination. Currently, we have four tracks open for students interested in gaining certifications from the Institute. They are:
1. Anglican Spirituality and Theology CertificationThis course delves into the History of the English Church and uses the Book of Common Prayer (1928) as a baseline for understanding different theological concepts. By approaching the subject from point of the BCP, the student is able to gain a real understanding of the theological implications that take place in morning/evening prayer and the Mass itself. For those interested in the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) we offer an in-depth study of the theology and spirituality of the Roman rite with the Council of Trent Catechism and the Mass. We also study the history of the Roman Church and the general doctrines of the Old Catholic Church. In this endeavor, we will study the declaration of Utrecht and will study the doctrines in question such as Papal Infallibility, Roman Primacy and the questions on the Immaculate Conception.
