For the first time, the Order will participate in the St. Michael's Lent, which is an ancient fast from August 16th till September 29th. Prior Bartimaeus was asked about why this decision was made in concerns to the members of the community. His answer was simple, "We need to reinvigorate the sacredness of fasting in the life of the Church, and the Order needs to be a beacon in this." He made note that the three companions of the Order were not bound to this particular requirement, only himself as a brother of the Order, but he invited all companions to join him in this endeavor so that all might come to the glory of the Father in preparation for Michaelmas.
Every year the community gathers for Michaelmas on September 29th to celebrate the heavenly Michael and all the great hosts of heaven. Typically, the festival consists of traditional Scotch Irish music, a Bannock, a cooked Goose, or duck, cranachan and games for the kids. This year we intend to get a devil piñata for the kids to beat and prayer cards with the St. Michael Prayer on them to hand out.
Br Bartimaeus made note that the fasting requirements will not be a full fast as in lent leading to Easter. The fast will consist of fasting throughout the week, no fasting on Saturday or Sundays as is standard, and abstinence from meat products on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
