The Order celebrates the Feast of St. Cuthbert of Lindisfarne. This great Celtic saint was highly venerated for his saintly composure, defense of the Orthodox faith and obedience to the Holy Councils. After the Synod of Whitby in 664, the Celtic and Anglican Bishops determined that certain things needed to change, mostly the Celtic calculation for Easter and some liturgical practices. St. Cuthbert set immediately into motion in affecting the change, along with St. Adomnan at Iona (Sept. 23). The two met fierce resistance and in the end both were exiled to some degree.
