The Orthodox Church of Nations is not currently in communion with the Ecumenical Patriarch, or the Patriarch of Russia. Amongst the World Orthodox, it remains an autocephalous Orthodox Church operating in over 22 countries, with over 100 bishops sitting on the Holy Synod and present on 5 continents. The numbers of the faithful are not known to this day with its largest churches in Africa and South America. The Holy Synod and Patriarch is the Patriarch of France, an ancient Western See, elevated by the Pope in the 6th century.
The Orthodox Patriarchate of the Nations is an Autocephalous Orthodox Christian body headquartered in Paris, France. It emphasizes the preservation of Apostolic traditions and the Nicene Creed while addressing the spiritual needs of diverse communities worldwide. Under the leadership of His Holiness Patriarch Nicholas I, the Patriarchate has focused on inclusivity, theological integrity, and global outreach. The Archeparchy of St. Peter the Aleut is a jurisdiction within the Orthodox Patriarchate of the Nations, dedicated to serving Orthodox Christians in North America, particularly among indigenous populations. Named after St. Peter the Aleut, a native of Kodiak Island in Alaska and a martyr of the Orthodox faith, the Archeparchy honors his legacy of faith and resilience.
The Archeparchy focuses on preserving the spiritual heritage of native Orthodox communities while fostering their integration into the broader Orthodox tradition. Its mission includes:
Establishing Parishes: Creating places of worship that serve both indigenous and non-indigenous Orthodox Christians.
Training Clergy: Preparing clergy to minister effectively to diverse communities, with an emphasis on cultural sensitivity.
Community Outreach: Supporting social and educational programs that address the needs of local populations.
Liturgical Life: Celebrating the Divine Liturgy and other sacraments, incorporating elements that resonate with the cultural traditions of indigenous peoples.
The Archeparchy's work reflects the broader mission of the Orthodox Patriarchate of the Nations to bring the message of Christ to all people while respecting and embracing their unique cultural identities. It is headed by His Eminence Nicholas Marius Sidau, Archbishop of Detroit.
